Talabat, the UAE-based q-commerce and foodtech platform, has fully acquired InstaShop from Delivery Hero SE for $32 million. With this acquisition, InstaShop becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Talabat, strengthening its grocery and retail offerings while expanding its partner network across the MENA region. Despite the acquisition, InstaShop will continue to operate as an independent brand within Talabat’s grocery and retail vertical.
Founded in 2004 by Abdulaziz Al Loughani, Mohammed Jaffar, and Khaled Al Otaibi, Talabat is an on-demand delivery platform for food and groceries, operating in the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt. In 2015, German e-commerce group Rocket Internet acquired Talabat for $170 million.
InstaShop, founded in 2015 by John Tsioris and headquartered in the UAE, is an online marketplace that connects users with vendors across the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, and Qatar. The platform has seen significant growth, generating an annual gross merchandise volume (GMV) of $300 million.
